ONTARIO FARM LAB
Ontario, Oregon
We met the amazing leadership for the Ontario High School FFA program at a school board meeting for the Ontario Community Schoolyard project, when light bulbs went off! Our team needed advice on how to program the community orchard at the elementary school and the high school FFA program wanted to turn their broken down greenhouses and football practice field into a work space for the kid’s program. Together, we worked with the kids, teachers, and alumni network to envision a space that better met their needs. The result is more than just a greenhouse and a farm, it’s also a future farm lab complete with shade houses, learning spaces, outdoor gathering for cookouts, orchard trees, and an apiary. The design is flexible to meet their needs and easily phasable to allow the farm lab to be built as funding comes in.
ABLE happily engaged in this work pro bono as an extension of our work at Alameda Elementary in Ontario. We are continuously moved by the care and support the people of Ontario give to one another and are glad to be a small part of that big effort.
Ontario Farm Lab is a pro bono effort done with leadership from Ontario High School FFA teachers, students and parent volunteers. This work was completed in 2023.
