STEAMTOWN NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
Scranton, Pennsylvania
As part of the National Parks Now research fellowship with Van Alen Institute and the National Park Service, our team was selected to rethink the relevancy of National Historic Sites in the 21st Century, specifically Steamtown National Historic Site. We created an analytic methodology to refresh and reframe the narratives of historic sites to make them more relevant and more impactful to more people. The work resulted in a pilot project, the Future Maker Workshop, a program for local teens to introduce S.T.E.A.M. curriculum into the historic site and forge new partnerships with local schools, colleges, and community groups.
This project was part of a design competition and pilot project led by the Van Alen Institute and the National Park Service. Design and workshop developed in collaboration with FORGE
The pilot project was completed in 2015.
